Alumni Spotlight: Mateo MacDonald, Class of 2014

This week, we're featuring Mateo MacDonald '14 who is currently pursuing his Music Business degree at the Unviersity of Coorado at Denver while also running a music column for local Colorado artists called Unsigned Unheard 5280.

After graduating from Denver Academy, Mateo took a year off to explore and grow. He immersed himself in culinary arts, attended "Suit School" in Manhattan learning the ins and outs of bespoke tailoring, and also helped a friend take steps toward his goal of becoming a music producer.

"From that moment on, everything felt like it fell into place in some strange way," he explained. "
After my travels across the world, I felt the time was right to start my secondary education."

Helping his friend in the music industry helped steer him toward the Music Entertainment Industry Studies program at The University of Colorado Denver, where he is working on his degree. As a music lover, Mateo enjoys listening to and promoting local Colorado artists which is how his idea for Unsigned Unheard 5280 came to life. In October of 2016, he officialy launched the company and since then has talked to over 200 artists and musicians involved in the local music scene. The company is hosting their first showcase on Thursday, October 18 called The U Cube.

"This showcase is our time to shine," says Mateo. "To introduce ourselves as a part of the next wave of local industry professionals and give a preview of what we have planned for the future as a creative consultation company."
