Green & Blue Review: Fall Athletics Season Wrap Up

By Rohen Matt, DA Class of 2027

Last week, Denver Academy's high school fall sports teams hosted the first of many senior nights this year. Seniors from all sports, including soccer, mountain biking, golf, and volleyball, were recognized, and it was a heartfelt moment for many seniors, as this is their last year competing. Many are choosing not to pursue this in college, while others are considering competing at the collegiate level. Senior Night was also the end of an incredible season for each sport.
In soccer, the boys had an incredibly tough season. At the varsity level, the boys' soccer team played against competitive teams. Oftentimes, the players would leave school as early as lunch to play their games. The boys put in long hours practicing and simply driving to games, and the effort paid off. They won one game in a shutout and came close to beating multiple other teams. In conclusion, Senior Night was bittersweet for the DA Varsity Boys Soccer Team, as they are losing many of their best players; however, the season reflects hard work, camaraderie, and success.

Girls volleyball had a momentous season this year. This was the first time the Denver Academy Girls Volleyball Team has played solely at the varsity level. And they didn't drown under the pressure! The team had over 20 players and worked extraordinarily hard to get where they were at the end of the season. With extended and 6 a.m. practices, along with hour-long drives, the volleyball girls put in the work. Every fan who watched the team said this was the best volleyball they had seen Denver Academy play. Overall, the volleyball girls rose to the varsity level, with coaches Martinez and Petrie leading the way. It is sad to see this year's seniors leave, as they have made the volleyball program what it is at DA. However, the younger girls have learned from the best, and Denver Academy is excited to see what next year has in store.

Denver Academy's High School Co-Ed Mountain Biking Team had one of the best seasons in a while. Something super special about this season was that Denver Academy became a D2 school in mountain biking with 18 riders. Emery B., Lyla D., and Caden S. went on to compete at the state competition. One of the most amazing things about this season is that one of the riders (Caden), who competed at state, was a freshman! Finally, Ben S., a senior this year, was awarded the Trailblazer Award for overcoming challenges and diversity. In the end, the Mountain Biking season was on the books.

Finally, the Boys Varsity Golf season was one for the record books. The team finished second in the league and 8th overall at state. Something unique about the season was that even though they finished second overall in the league, they beat the first-place team at state! Jack B., a freshman this year, led the team, finishing 7th overall at state. This season was a special one for the golf team, and even though they are sad to see this year's seniors leave, DA knows they are in good shape for the coming years.
