Annah Bender, '20: Dumb Friends League Young Adult Volunteer of the Year

Annah Bender, Class of 2020, received the Phil Johnson/Lou Rader Community Service Award from Denver Academy this past May for her commitment to volunteering. She continues to demonstrate excellence as a volunteer as a DA alumna and recently received the Young Adult Volunteer of the Year Award from the Denver Dumb Friends League.

Here is what the Dumb Friends League had to say about Annah:
"...Annah began her tenure at the Dumb Friends League in 2014 as a Junior Volunteer Club member. Not only is she passionate about helping the animals in our care, but she also reaches out and connects with youth as a part of the Humane Education Department. She’s always willing to jump in and help out last minute and support the Humane Ed programs however she can. Annah has a great rapport with the kids, which is clearly fueled by her positive attitude and down-to-earth approach...Annah is currently attending college out of state, and she still offers to come in during holidays and breaks. Yet another example of her willingness to step up and show her unwavering support for the League..."

Annah is a freshman at Central College in Pella, Iowa with a double major in biology and environmental sciences. Annah says the biggest thing she learned while attending DA was how to better interact with those around her. She further explained, "I enjoyed the freedom I had to work on my science project, patterns of habitat use by nocturnal bats as determined by ultrasonic acoustic analysis, which is now getting published! I also enjoyed being able to lead the girls' basketball team."

Congrats, Annah!
