Nora Schacht '04: Dream Weaver

This month's Alumni Spotlight shines on fiber artist Nora Schacht, who graduated from Denver Academy in 2004. She met her husband, Michael Yeager, when they were both students at Johnson and Wales University. Married in 2007, they have two children, James (age 11) and Jessie (age 8). Nora is a busy mom, who volunteers at her children’s school and hones her skills and knowledge of weaving.

Nora’s time at home with her son and daughter has been full of surprises. She cherishes the joy they show playing games and talking with each other, and how well they get along. She has relished family conversations about life, how things work (from atoms to engineering) and everything in between. Nora is grateful that her children have time and relationships with both sets of their grandparents and great grandparents.

We asked Nora about her interest in weaving. “I’ve been weaving my whole life," she says. "About eight years ago, my mom asked me to start a weaving project sample and it got me weaving again."

Her parents own a weaving and spinning manufacturing company in Boulder. Nora’s favorite yarn is the yarn she spins herself – wool, alpaca, mohair (sheep’s wool) and silk. She experiments with dying yarn and fiber, and teaches and talks about fiber arts.

In the future, she looks forward to watching her kids grow and flourish and continuing her creation of fiber arts.
