Common Application Opens August 1 + ACT Info. & Tips for Juniors & Seniors

The Common Application will open for the Class of 2021 on August 1!

Currently, rising seniors are able to fill out most sections of the Common Application and DA's College and Transition Counseling Team recommends taking advantage of the summer break to complete as much as possible. After August 1, rising seniors will also be able to complete the school-specific questions.

Top tips for rising seniors:

1. Earn your Community Service hours. We ask that all seniors complete 50 hours by graduation!
2. Polish your Personal Statement.  Click here for the Common Application essay prompts.
3. Update your school choices in your SCOIR account
4. Go on as many virtual visits as you can!
5. Have a second (or third!) set of eyes look over your Common Application responses. Finish as much as you can before school starts on August 19.

ACT information and tips for rising juniors and seniors from DA's College and Transition Counseling Team:

  • Denver Academy will offer ACT Special Testing opportunities during the 2020 - 2021 school year as long as it can be delivered in a safe manner for students and proctors. Registration opens the last week of July. Contact DA ACT Special Testing & Accommodations Coordinator Ms. Casie Myers for questions about the registration process for students who qualify for special testing accommodations.
  • We will know more about whether or not Denver Academy will serve as an  ACT National and Extended Time Testing site at the beginning of the school year. Thank you for your patience.

  • Check out the wide range of colleges & universities that will no longer require standardized testing as part of the admissions process. This list is updated often!
  • All colleges and universities are offering virtual tour and online admissions chat opportunities this summer. Take advantage of these tours without having to travel.  This is an example of the virtual visit options being offered by Lynn University.
  • Considering a gap experience prior to enrolling in college? Check out the opportunities with Verto Education
  • Rising seniors may meet with Dr. Corbin for an advising session as early as Monday, August 4. All seniors and a parent are required to meet with Dr. Corbin before Fall Break. Click here to set up your session for August. Please note, this is for the Class of 2021 only.
