Josh Niernberg '94 Chef and Restaurant Owner

Josh Niernberg '94 is the chef and owner of Bin 707 Foodbar and Taco Party in Grand Junction, Colo. Josh was named a James Beard Best Chef Mountain Region Semifinalist in 2020 and a James Beard Outstanding Chef Semifinalist in 2022. Josh feels that without Denver Academy (DA) he would not be where he is today. 

“Denver Academy helped to cultivate my artistic expression and taught me there is more than one way to get the job done.” Said Josh. “Had it not been for DA, I would likely not have graduated nor gained the confidence needed to trust myself in achieving goals.” 

Josh and his wife opened Bin 707 Foodbar in 2011 as a way to showcase the community. He saw the ability to do something different and provide a product unique to his wife and him and made it accessible to all price points. After much success, they opened their second restaurant, Taco Party, in 2017.

“I love being a chef and restaurant owner because it is rewarding, challenging, always changing and every day brings something new. It suits my high energy and allows me to focus on multiple areas to create new dishes, drinks, menus, and more.” Josh said. 

Josh enjoyed his time at DA and especially liked the alternative approach DA takes toward education compared to traditional teaching models. 

We are so proud of Josh and all that he has accomplished. We can't wait to see what else he will do in the future. Go, Mustang!
