The 5th grade is banding together to help fight hunger this Thanksgiving season. As a grade, they were inspired by seeing the play adaptation of "Maddie's Fridge", a story about childhood hunger. The students are collecting food in the Elementary/6th Grade Building from November 4-22. They are collecting on behalf of Metro Caring, a local Denver food pantry that is looking for specific food and non-food items to help their clients. Fifth-graders are hoping to collect grains, proteins, fruits, vegetables, and other various items as listed below:
Fruits and Vegetables
Look for ‘no salt added’ or ‘low sodium’, ‘no sugar added’ and ‘100% juice’
Tomato Sauce
Low sodium Canned Vegetables
Canned Fruits In Juice or Water
Applesauce (unsweetened)
Grains
Oatmeal (unsweetened)
Low sugar/ high fiber cereal (cheerios, raisin bran, etc)
Whole-wheat flour
Rice
Whole grain pasta
Protein
Look for ‘no salt added’, ‘low- sodium’ and ‘canned in water’
