DA Digital Art Students Create Meaningful Work

Digital Art Students in Mr. Laird's class were asked to create a poster inspired by an editing technique that artist Shepard Fairey used for the Hope poster of Barack Obama. Their art pieces were not about taking political stances. Instead, students chose one word to finish the statement, “Denver Academy has helped me become…” and reflected on their personal growth from their time at DA. Through the art-making process, students were able to discover the power of a single word alongside art and design.

Our students described themselves as self-confident, independent, smart, brave, kind, creative, and a number of other positive attributes. Then, they created self-portraits that reflected their chosen words. The result is a beautiful display now installed in the DA Administration Building. Please come see this art installation, as well as more art from middle and high school students, at the Juried Art Show on May 17 from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
