Life After High School – Are You Ready?

Let’s Build the Bridges Together
Wednesday, January 24 - 5:30 to 8 pm at Denver Academy

What: This evening of post-secondary exploration is for parents of high school students with learning differences. It features Colorado experts who specialize in assisting families of teens with learning differences with pathways to post-secondary education and transition after high school. The event starts with an informative opening presentation, followed by two breakout sessions to dig deeper into the right choice for each family/child’s future.

When: Wednesday, January 24, 2018 from 5:30 to 8 pm (Check-in begins at 5 p.m.)

Where: Denver Academy Campus – Richardson Hall & the Denver Academy Gym,
4400 E Iliff Ave., Denver, CO 80222

Why: Denver Academy, the International Dyslexia Association - Rocky Mountain Branch (IDA-RMB), and Understood all support families of children with learning differences such as dyslexia, ADD and ADHD. The organizations have partnered to present this event to support families of high school aged children with learning differences to provide resources and information to help them navigate through life after high school.

Denver Academy (DA), International Dyslexia Association - Rocky Mountain Branch (IDA-RMB) and Understood.org, a free education resource for the 1 in 5 kids with learning and attention issues and flagship program of the National Center for Learning Disabilities, are partnering to present Life After High School – Are You Ready? Let’s Build the Bridges Together. The special evening is for parents of high school students with learning differences and will take place on January 24 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Denver Academy.

The event includes an opening presentation, followed by two breakout sessions with local experts including Jill Corbin- Denver Academy College and Transition Counseling, Nicola Frost – Understood, Jill Schmidt - Colorado Mountain College, Jimmie Smith - University of Denver, Marion Taylor, Margot Latici, Brian Wolff, Sally Pistilli, Michelle Kalin, Debbie Campbell, Roxanne Turner and more. Breakout sessions will cover topics including:
  • Two-Year College Transfer to Four-Year
  • Four-Year L.D. Programs
  • Gap Years
  • Readiness for Success
  • College Living Experience
  • Psychologists and Evaluations
  • The Parent Experience
  • Assistive Technology
  • ADHD and Executive Function
