Chapel Library gets beautiful new entrance

Denver Academy
Denver Academy's beautiful and iconic historic Chapel Library underwent some impotant renovations over the summer. With a grant of $157,273 from the History Colorado State Historical Fund, DA renovated the stained glass windows, copper cupola, and front entrance door - all of which are original. On August 18, Heritage Window Restoration removed the plywood that had been covering the entrance to the Chapel Library and replaced the newly restored large wooden door. Because the south-facing front of the door wasn’t salvageable, it was resurfaced with new wood, stain, and varnish.

On August 22, four large stained glass windows were removed by Heritage Window Restoration to be taken to Watkins Stained Glass for restoration and repair. Currently, all of the stained glass windows on the main level of the Chapel have been removed with the exception of one window on the east side that has been repaired and replaced. Temporary plastic “windows” are protecting the window openings, and the stained glass windows will be returned as repairs are done, likely through the end of 2017.
