The College & Transition Counseling will be hosting guest speakers from Revel to discuss practicing independent living skills with your child, as well as finding success for students on the autism spectrum. Program Visitation Days provide an overview of the curriculum and framework of Denver Academy. The two-hour visit includes classroom visits and a campus tour, along with an informational session led by the Denver Academy Program Team. This tour is designed for professionals, community members, and educational partners. Prospective parents & families interested in learning more about Denver Academy are encouraged to contact the Admissions Office and attend an open house.
This hands-on simulation session will take place on Wednesday, December 4. Participants will experience some of the challenges and frustrations faced by people with language-based learning differences. The session guides participants through six learning tasks commonly encountered in the classroom or workplace including reading comprehension, fluency, writing, spelling, listening and processing speed. These will be followed by a group discussion of experiences shared and lessons learned. Denver Academy's High School SOCA meetings are an inclusive group of students of color and allies. This group is student-led and open to all students. The mission of this group is to embrace unity through respect in order to create an empowered, diverse and safe community. Led by Counselor, Lynne Cole, the group will feature speakers, activities and foster safe and thoughtful dialogue.
Seniors will participate in a 20-minute interview with members of our community serving as potential employers. We ask that students treat this as a real interview, and provide assistance during the seminar with tips on creating a professional resume and cover letter prior to the activity.
Colorado Gives Day, December 10, is an annual statewide movement to celebrate and increase philanthropy in Colorado through online giving. Denver Academy seniors will showcase the research they have conducted on a career of choice. High School grades will attend the career expo to learn more about the careers our seniors have selected. Parents are welcome to attend!
The Gala committee will be conducting a site visit at Ritz-Carlton Denver, the location of the April 18 Gala 2020 event. Meet at the hotel lobby at 11:00 AM or to carpool from DA, meet at the front office at 10:30 a.m. Lunch will be served.
Denver Academy 8th-grade parents are invited to join us for a special high school information session on Thursday, December 12 at 8:30 a.m. in Johnson Commons of Richardson Hall. Learn more about DA's high school program which focuses on flexible placement, structure and support, and engaged learning. Presenters include our Head of High School Mark Wood and the high school deans. Discover how high school at DA helps each student reach their academic potential. Denver Academy's High School Gender and Sexualities Alliance is an inclusive student-led group that's open to all high school students. The group's goal is to provide a safe space for gathering, sharing and creating an inclusive community at Denver Academy.
This monthly group meeting is provided to DA families as an opportunity for support and education for parents and caregivers of adopted kids. The group meets monthly every third Wednesday and is hosted by a DA Alumni Parent, Liz Clark, LPC.
