Denver Academy is committed to the development of the whole child, starting at the elementary level. Our program
and curriculum are designed to foster a love of learning and self-awareness. DA’s Elementary School strives to enhance basic academic skills while exploring areas of individual strengths and honoring a diversity of learners. We deliver our curriculum through the use of Howard Gardner’s Theory of Multiple Intelligences by varying teaching strategies to address diverse learning styles. We stress the character virtues of respect and responsibility while encouraging personal student growth and individuality within a caring and safe environment.
Our goal is to help our students reach their potential by working at an independent level in an inclusive, attentive community. This all starts by hiring and training dynamic teachers. All of our Elementary teachers have been trained in the Orton-Gillingham approach for reading and spelling, Lindamood Bell Visualizing/Verbalizing, and Smithsonian Science. As needed, our Literacy Specialists work one-on-one with students to further enrich their learning and development.
Teachers discuss and examine virtues such as respect, responsibility, kindness, perseverance, generosity, and empathy during our Character Education classes. Conflict resolution, maintaining friendships, creating a sense of community, and self-advocacy are also modeled during this class.
All students participate in drama, art, and music
. Students are introduced to the digital arts
and computer use through a specialized technology class. Finally, every elementary student attends physical education class on a daily basis! The P.E. program
stresses healthy living while introducing students to a variety of sports and athletic skills.
Ultimately, students enrolled in the DA Elementary School realize that school and learning are fun!
