2022 DA Symposium

Featuring Internationally Acclaimed Author and Learning Differences Expert Rick Lavoie
 
Denver Academy's 2022 Symposium on Teaching & Learning will feature the theme of motivation. The special event includes a presentation by Keynote Speaker Rick Lavoie, M.A., M.Ed., an internationally acclaimed author, public speaker, and learning differences expert. The title of his presentation is "The Squeaky Wheel NEEDS the Grease."

Lavoie holds three degrees in special education and holds two honorary doctorates in education from the University of Massachusetts (2003) and Mitchell College (CT – 2007). He has served as a visiting lecturer at numerous universities including Syracuse, Harvard, Manhattanville College, University of Alabama, University of Melbourne, and Georgetown. His numerous national television appearances include The TODAY Show, CBS Morning Show, Good Morning America, ABC Evening News, and Walt Disney Presents.

Rick Lavoie is the author of the book “It’s So Much Work to Be Your Friend: Helping the Child with Learning Disabilities Find Social Success (Touchstone/ Simon and Schuster, 2005). The book addresses the direct link between learning disabilities and social skills issues that many children face. And his most recent book and PBS DVD on student motivation “The Motivation Breakthrough: 6 Secrets to Turning On the Tuned-Out Child” (2007) were featured in USA Today.

The 2022 DA Symposium on Teaching & Learning will take place on Friday, March 11 with the presentation by Rick Lavoie starting at 9 a.m. Additional details are to be announced.

The event is FREE for Denver Academy parents and staff. The symposium will also be open to the public for a fee. Registration opens in January 2022.
