These are the minimum system requirements that we suggest for viewing web pages and/or video on our site: Windows - MicrosoftTM Windows ®: 2000, Millennium Edition, XP Home Edition or XP Professional, Vista
- WindowsTM Media Player 9 or above
- EIther of the following web browsers (minimum versions): Firefox 2, MicrosoftTM Internet Explorer 7*.
- 512 megabytes (MB) of RAM
- PentiumTM 4 @ 1 gHz or faster
- Broadband Internet connection or access to a high-speed network (suggested) or 56k modem connection (must choose "modem" version of videos)
- SVGA 800 x 600 Monitor
- Sound output (internal computer speaker, external speakers or headphones)
*While Microsoft Internet Explorer is standard on most Windows systems, we encourage you to try Firefox 2 instead. It follows web standards more strictly than Internet Explorer and possibly is quite a bit more resistant to viruses and spyware as well.
Macintosh - Mac OS X ® 10.4 or higher
- AppleTM Quicktime®
- Flip4Mac® Quicktime® Plugin (free from MicrosoftTM)**
- Any of the following web browsers (minimum versions): Firefox 2, Safari 1.2***.
- 512 megabytes (MB) of RAM
- PowerPCTM G4 or better.
- Broadband Internet connection or access to a high-speed network (suggested) or 56k modem connection (must choose "modem" version of videos)
- SVGA 800 x 600 Monitor
- Sound output (internal computer speaker, external speakers or headphones)
**Special note to Mac OS X users only: Note that while our site's videos are in Microsoft Windows Media format (WMV), the Windows Media Player for Mac is not recommended. Flip4Mac plays WMV's very well, gives you much better control and quality and should work well on other websites that use the extremely common WMV format in addition to ours. ***Safari does not do proper renderings with some JavaScript, which is a problem because JavaScript drives much of the menu system on this site. Some areas of the site might not be easy to get to, or inaccessible altogether with Safari. We hope Apple fixes this well-known issue soon. In the meantime, we strongly recommend Firefox 2.
Linux/SolarisTM We welcome Linux and Unix users to our site. However, these systems have not been tested by us during our site design, therefore we have no "official" recommendations. However, the Firefox/Mozilla/Netscape (Linux) (Unix) browsers should render correctly as this site is tuned with Firefox in mind.
Video may prove challenging, as we use Microsoft's WMV format with an embedded player in a web page. However, MPlayer supposedly provides some WMV capability to Linux and SolarisTM (again, these OS's are untested by us) and may be worth trying. Binaries exist for Linux/x86 but SolarisTM evidently requires a re-compile of MPlayer. Netscape (any OS) AOL has officially ended support of the Netscape commercial web browser product (largely due to the fact that it was transformed into the open-source and excellent Firefox browser), and this site has ended support for it as well.
