Library Tip: Denver Public Library’s Free Databases |
Denver Public Library’s website (www.denverlibrary.org) offers a wealth of information, and one of the best features is their “Research Resources” link. Most of the databases listed require a DPL card, but they are free and you can even apply for a temporary card online.
Once you have a DPL card and can access the databases and read through their descriptions. Many are very specific (American song, Home Improvement, Mango Languages, etc.) but some are more general and offer full-text journal articles that our students will use during their time at Denver Academy and in college. Some of the most helpful databases include: - Academic Search Premier: Full-text articles on many contemporary issues and topics. Includes Consumer Reports.
CultureGrams: Find information about countries and states, including national anthems, recipes, and flags. Expanded Academic: Offers scholarly journals—be sure to check the “full text” box so that your search returns only full-text articles. Gale PowerSearch: A way to search all of the Gale and Infotrac Databases at once—a great starting point for high school and college students! - Kids Search: An EBSCO database that offers great resources for younger students.
NoveList and NoveList K-8: Databases that help match readers with new books! Searchasaurus: Another EBSCO kids’ database, searchable by Lexile reading level. Student Resource Center: includes articles, essays, and other information on multiple topics.
