    Spotlight on the Gala
By Cris Norin, 2010 Gala Chair and Karen Lozow, Director of Annual Giving

Are you Gala savvy? For those of us who volunteer or work to create the Gala each year, we live and breathe the Gala every day. It is our largest community event, and it is also our biggest fundraiser for tuition assistance.

The Gala occurs each spring and is attended by faculty, staff, parents, alumni parents, alumni, grandparents, friends and others in our community.

At each Gala we celebrate the success of our students, the dreams of our seniors and the achievements of our alumni. We thank our faculty and staff and honor an individual that has made a difference in the lives of students with learning differences with our Reach for the Stars award.

Over the past 13 years of Gala events, we have raised over $2.2 million and made over 330 awards of tuition assistance. Nearly one-third of our students receive tuition assistance so they can attend Denver Academy. There are many additional children in our community whose families cannot afford DA tuition who would thrive if given the opportunity to attend.

    How can you participate?

    • Save the evening of Saturday, May 8 on your calendar and watch for your invitation in the mail.
    • Volunteer to help with a Gala committee.
    • Ask your favorite business for an auction donation.
    • Ask your employer to be a Gala Corporate Sponsor.
    • Place an acknowledgement in the event program to celebrate your student or favorite teacher.
    • Attend the Gala on Saturday, May 8!

Event details: The Gala will be held on Saturday, May 8 at the Infinity Park Event Center in Glendale.  Enjoy surprise bag sales, a silent auction with a selection of Mother’s Day Gifts, a gourmet dinner, a live auction, entertainment and the presentation of the Reach for the Stars award.

New this year is an online auction that begins in April. This will be a great opportunity to get our out-of-state friends and families involved in this important fundraiser—even if they can’t attend the event.  An email about the auction will be coming in February—please share it with others! To volunteer, call Gala Chair Cris Norin at 303-770-1871.
