Planned Giving

The DA Legacy Society

We are pleased that you are interested in learning more about the benefits of gift plans and about the Denver Academy Legacy Society. Although these gifts may not come to fruition for many years, planned giving is a wonderful way to provide a solid foundation for the DA’s fiscal health while at the same time, ensuring that future generations of students will benefit from a Denver Academy education. Over our lifetime, there are many people and institutions that have significant impacts on our families. Members of the Denver Academy Legacy Society have expressed the importance of DA in their lives by making a commitment to the school through their estate plans. The most common type of planned gift is a bequest in your will or trust. Denver Academy accepts many types of planned gifts and assets including cash, securities, real estate, retirement plans, life insurance policies, and other deferred gifts. We are grateful for all of our planned-giving donors for their generous support.

If you have decided to include Denver Academy in your estate plans, please let us know. We would like to thank you for your generosity, make sure the purpose of your gift is honored by the School, and include you as a member of the Denver Academy Legacy Society.

Meet the Legacy Society

Meet some of our Legacy Society members and read their stories.

Craig Knippenberg & Lisa Patterson

Craig and Lisa have a special affinity for Denver Academy. As counselors with Knippenberg, Patterson, Langley & Associates, they have helped many Denver Academy students and families over the past 30 years. They have also provided parent/professional training and lectures on the challenges that learning differences in children and adolescents present in school and home. Both Craig and Lisa have served on the DA Board of Trustees.

When asked what motivated them to include Denver Academy in their estate plans, Craig and Lisa told us, “as a working family, we’ve never had the ability to make financial contributions to match our emotional attachment to DA. We realized that joining the Legacy Society was a way for us to meet both goals.”

The process of making this gift was very straightforward, they added.

The annual dinner of the Legacy Society is something Craig and Lisa look forward to. “It’s fun, and one can’t help but enjoy the jokes about when our ‘contribution’ will take place!

Mark & Aimee Twarogowski

"It’s hard to believe, but it’s been over 35 years since I found my way to Denver Academy. Over the years, DA has become my family. I met my wife Aimee here when we both taught at the Race Street campus in Middle School, Prep School, and the old Green Division. DA is where I grew up, learned to be a dad, and became passionate about education. Our school is a place where students receive an education tailor-made for their learning profile."

"I want nothing more than to see DA provide a transformative education for many more years and joining the Legacy Society was a way for Aimee and me to do that. This is our home and that’s why we have included DA in our estate planning."

David & Louise Santomarco

“It’s a nice feeling.” That’s the way David and Louise Santomarco described the planned gift they have made to Denver Academy through their estate.

The decision to make such a gift is the result of the deep gratitude that David and Louise have for the success their son Peter had enjoyed at DA. Like many parents at DA, they felt that the public schools were not meeting Peter's needs. But after six years at Denver Academy, Peter graduated as class Valedictorian with strong self esteem and a sense that he can succeed at anything he sets his mind to completing.

As his parents describe it, “Peter has discovered a passion for learning.” With this firm foundation, Peter went on to the University of Denver and in 2008 graduated with a dual degree in History and Political Science, then finding a job working for Colorado's #1 medical malpractice law firm.

In remembering Denver Academy in their estate plan, David and Louise feel that this provides them with a way to make a significant gift and more importantly, to ensure that “DA is there for other children who need help.”

“Creating an endowment to Denver Academy was personal for us. We are giving back to an institution that has had such a positive impact on the lives of our family”
